Filters and ICP2 min read

Filtering leads by industry

Use the industry filter to find leads at companies in specific sectors like SaaS, Finance, or Healthcare.

Last updated: 8 August 2026

The industry filter lets you target leads at companies in specific sectors. This is useful when your product or service is vertical-specific.

How it works

Click the industry filter and browse or search through available options. Industries are based on LinkedIn's taxonomy, which includes:

  • Technology, Information and Internet
  • Software Development
  • Financial Services
  • Marketing Services
  • Professional Training and Coaching
  • And many more

Select one or more industries to filter your results.

Industry taxonomy

LinkedIn's industry list is extensive but sometimes uses different names than you might expect:

  • "SaaS" companies usually fall under "Software Development" or "Technology"
  • "Fintech" spans "Financial Services" and "Technology"
  • "Marketing agencies" are usually "Marketing Services"

Browse the full list to find the categories that match your targets.

Post Engagement vs ICP Search

Post Engagement: Industry filter narrows results based on where the reacting person works. If you search for people reacting to Salesforce posts, the industry filter shows only those at companies in your selected industries.

ICP Search: Industry is part of the semantic matching. You can include industry in your description ("marketing agencies in the UK") or use the filter, or both.

Combining with other filters

Industry works well with job title for precise targeting:

  • Industry: Software Development + Job title: VP Sales = VPs of Sales at software companies
  • Industry: Financial Services + Job title: Head of Marketing = Marketing leaders at financial firms

When industry is most useful

Industry filtering is powerful when:

  • Your product is vertical-specific (healthcare software, fintech APIs)
  • You want to exclude certain sectors (no government, no education)
  • You are testing messaging across different verticals

It is less useful when your product serves a function (sales, marketing) across all industries.
